Last week our regular guests from Austria had an excelent week of fishing here at the Skarnsundet Fjordsenter. Everybody was able to catch good sized fish and they simply had a nice time. The weather was perfect and the condititons for good fishing on the fjord were even better. Coalfish, cod, pollack, whiting, redfish and haddock were part of their daily catch.
The big coalfish are still outstanding and the amount of fish is not getting less. In September the really good coalfish season starts and when it is already so good in August, what do we have to expect in September then??? Anyway, I am looking forward to September and to the things to come.
Here are some nice pictures of last week.
9,2 kilo coalie

another big one
Thanks for looking and see you next time!

At the moment we experience an excenpional coalfish fishing in the Skarnsundet. Fish up to 10 kg have been caught everyday by our guests and at the right tide you are able to catch a good amount of big fish within an hour. The big shoals of brisling are still in the fjord, which is the main prey for the bigger coalfish at the moment. "Speedjigging" with silver pirks up to 150 grams seems to be the most effective technique for coalfish over 3 kg. Feathers attract to many small fish and it is hard to get through to the bigger fish.
Two weeks ago, we had some guests from Holland at the Skarnsundet Fjordsenter, who really enjoyed their time here and the unbelieveble fishing at the moment. Cod, coalfish, pollack, whiting, flatfish and a shark fell to their bait and came into the boat for a picture or two.
Here is a nice brace of coalfish!

And a nice shark!

Every year, Gerrard and his family are visiting Skarnsundet to have a calm, relaxing holiday and to experience the great fishing in these waters. As Gerrard has a very good knowledge about the fishing in the fjord, he and his familiy managed to catch some really nice fish during their holiday. Both the size of the fish and the variety showed that they fished here in the past years. Big cod, huge coalfish, pollack and even a big plaice landed in their boat for a picture and were returned afterwards. Very interesting is, that Gerrard caught a lot of cod on a pirk, which he combined with a shrimp (reker)! Natural bait, such as mackerel, herring, worms or shrimps, always brings good results, especially when you are looking for a lot of different species. Again the light tackle produced the most fish and fun. Heavy spinning rods (50-100 gramm casting-weight) are still best in water-depths from 5-80 meters.
Here are some nice pictures!

I hope you enjoyed your time here and hopefully see you next year! Thanks for the nice pictures!

Yesterday we continued fishing our new discovered spot. Fishing with coalfish and mackerel fillets in depths between 90 and 130 meters, we managed to catch some nice redbass and ling again. The rigs we use are kept simple to avoid tangle and high costs, if we get snagd. A running boom with a flowing pennelrig trace combined with fluorocent muppets or tubes does the trick. Sinkers between 300 and 600 grams are much enough, if the current is not too strong. A 30-50 lbs rod with a 2-speed multiplier reel filled with 0,20 mm braided line is perfect for the job.
Here is the catch of the last night, starting with a 1,5 kg redbass.
Here is my first ling ever of about 4 kg!
And a nice redbass.

Yesterday Phill and his guests from Austria were fishing a spot, which produced some good redbass in the last few days. The tackle they used was a simple paternosterrig with attractors like glowing muppets and small pieces of bluey on 2/0 hooks. In the first drift they got a hard strike on a strip of bluey and everybody was sure that this was not a red bass. The fish started taking line from the Shimano Tekota reel, mounted to the 50 lbs Antares rod and shook its head several times. Finally the fish reached the surface and the surprise was big. A strong 7,5 kg ling was hanging on one of the small hooks.

Me and Tom had our day off yesterday and we headed out to a new mark, we have not fished before. Unfortunately it was out going water and the results were rather disappointing. A few nice cod and a tiny ling was all we could get. We headed back to a spot, where others were able to get one or two nice ling and tusk. The depth was only 100 meters, which made it very easy to fish. A big chunk of mackerel on ledger boom rig was lowerd down to the sea floor and the first drift began. Only 3 minutes passed, when we both got a strike. We both hooked into some good fish and a 3 kilo ling and a 4 kilo tusk were the result. Absolutely amazing fish!

The run of big coalfish is still in the fjord. These really strong, hard fighting fish have an average weight of 6 kilo and are able to take 80 meters of line in one run. Here is an example.

Fishing for pike with surface lures is one of the most spectacular fishing methods. Watching the pike chasing your lure in the reeds or shallow weedy bays can be addictive. The lakes around Steinskjer offer some great fishing with surface lures like poppers and stickbaits. Especially in the summer months, when the water temperatur is increasing, the pike get more active, too. Several fish in a few hours is not uncommon in those waters. Pike to 10 kg have been caught in the past years and fish around 5 kg are always possible. A light jerkbait rod with a low profile multiplier reel is just right for this type of fishing. Lures like Rapala Subwalk or floating jerkbaits of Salmo and Strike Pro are deadly in the shallow parts of the lake.
Me and Tom gave it a go on Tuesday and we caught 3 fish, one weighing around 3 kg. We missed a lot of fish, which missed the lures when they were attacking. The pike always strike when you do not expect it, absolutely amazing!!

Hello fans..... :-)
Here I gonna post some nice fishing videos our customers made during the last 3 weeks. Especially the one with the kayak is very impressing. Fishing the strong current of the Skarnsundet in a kayak is something completely new, but very effective at the same time. With a kayak you can reach spots, where other people scare the fish with the engine of their boat. I think especially the sea trout fishing in the spring time could be cracked with the kayaks. Matt, our guest and kayaking expert, have had great success fishing for coalfish, pollack, cod and other species. By the way, his 9,5 kg coalfish towed him around for a while......!
Anyway, here are the videos. Other videos will follow soon!

The last few weeks gave us a really good run of big coalfish in the Skarnsundet area. Fish around 8 kilos are not seldom at the moment and bigger fish around 11 kg have been caught. These migrating fish follow the huge shoals of "brisling" (small herring) into the inner Trondheimsfjord to feast on them.
Best methods are speedjigging and longline fishing. On speedjigging you will get the bigger fish as you fish more for the quality. For second, on the light tackle these coalfish are a serious fighter!!
Here are some pictures of the last week!

This young lad from the Netherlands caught his biggest coalfish ever on a ultra light spinning rod! The 8 kilo fish fell to a 80 gram speedjigg. Well done and congratulations!
